Plein 1944

Plein 1944 gets its name from the bombings of 22 February 1944, which destroyed the old streets of Nijmegen. Plein 44 was realized after World War II: a pleasant shopping square and bus station.Over the years the square has become outdate and in early 2004 it was decited to renew the square. The plan for the square was to have podia, benches, tables and plenty of green areas. A 3-level underground car parking lot and bicycle storage will be constructed under the square.

“Building B” (part of the project), with an underlying basement was constructed between two adjacent structures. B&P Bodeminjectie B.V. applied a vertical injection body using soil injection with water-glass hardener was applied under the 2 adjacent structures to reinforce their concrete pipes as foundations. The activities were carried out in several phases due to the anchoring of the injection body. The wall height was almost 8 metres high in some parts.
